EMBER & ARROW
/ˈem-bər ænd ˈerō/ · noun
The fire within. The direction forward.
This is where you build strength—with intention.
At Ember & Arrow, we believe strength isn’t one-dimensional.
It’s physical. It’s mental. It’s earned.
We’re here for the ones who want to push harder, lift heavier, and show up consistently—not for perfection, but for progress.
No ego. No noise. Just focused work.
This isn’t just a gym.
The Squad That Never Backs Down
Joanne Heyob
As the owner and founder of Ember & Arrow Collective, movement has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. After more than a decade of teaching fitness, I’ve learned that people need more than a place to work out—they need a place to belong. Ember & Arrow was built around that belief: a community where we push each other, show up for one another, and grow stronger together. Wherever you’re starting from, I’ll be your biggest cheerleader. You’re not just here to work out—you’re part of the collective.

Having spent much of my life around coaching, competition, and fitness—from playing college basketball at Heidelberg University to discovering my passion for group fitness—I’ve experienced firsthand the impact a great community can have. Ember & Arrow was created from that experience, with the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and welcomed. We’re here to help people discover what they’re capable of, celebrate showing up, and create a space where you can be exactly who you are.
Head Trainer & Co-Founder
Originally from Boston, I’m a wife, mom, and fitness and wellness lover who moved to Columbus in 2022. After a career in hospitality, I discovered my passion for group fitness in 2019 and found my purpose in helping others feel strong, confident, and empowered. I bring a focus on connection, community, and making fitness approachable and fun to every class. When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me cooking, cheering on my favorite sports teams, enjoying time at home, or trying to make friends with every furry animal I meet!

I’m a Columbus native, group fitness instructor, and big believer that movement should make you feel good from the inside out. I started teaching in 2023 and quickly fell in love with creating welcoming, high-energy strength classes where everyone can show up exactly as they are. My goal is to help you push past mental blocks, surprise yourself with what your body can do, and leave feeling strong and capable. I also believe in embracing the slower side of life, which is why you’ll find me teaching stretch classes designed to give your body and mind space to breathe. Outside the studio, you’ll find me with a cup of coffee soaking up the sunrise, hunting for treasures at garage sales, traveling, or redesigning my home for the 100th time!
I’ve been a Certified Personal Trainer since 2016, with a background in competitive sports and four years of collegiate cheerleading at Ohio University. I quickly found my passion in group fitness and love the energy, connection, and motivation that comes from a room full of people showing up to become their best selves. I’m excited to bring my knowledge and passion to Ember & Arrow through Strength classes, with a focus on functional movement, building a stronger and healthier life, and having fun along the way. Outside of the gym, you’ll find me spending time with my two French Bulldogs or enjoying a crisp glass of wine on a patio. I can’t wait to meet you and be even a small part of your journey!
